Introduction

Welcome to our blog!  We are Jeremy and Heather and are starting this family bloggy thing to keep our friends and family aware of what’s happening in our lives.  Our lives are about to get muuuch more interesting in the next months since our first baby is due July 5.  Until we get a chance to introduce Baby Mac to the world, I’ll introduce the cast of characters that might be  appearing in this blog from time to time.

Jeremy – Husband, civil engineer, sports aficionado, lover of good food and beer and traveling.
Heather – Wife, sustainable food marketer, voracious reader, lover of good food, traveling and spending time with family.
Prowler – Bengal cat who likes to talk (no, seriously, he’s the loudest cat you’ve ever met), watch the neighbors out the window and sit in Heather’s lap.
Sadie – Australian Shepherd mix dog who likes to sleep on the couch, go for hikes, and chase squirrels.
Baby Mac – Approximate arrival July 5.  Currently about 4 pounds inside Heather’s tummy, and regularly kicks her right side.  It’s going to surprise the world with its gender, and so far doesn’t have a name (Mom and Dad can’t agree).
We’re blessed with a large, loving group of family and friends who will undoubtedly appear in this blog.  They are Heather’s parents Carol and John, Jeremy’s mom Teresa (Grandma T) and her husband Danny, Jeremy’s dad Wayne and his wife Darlene, Jeremy’s grandmother Nanny, Heather’s grandmother Gramma, Heather’s brother JP and his wife Debbie, Aunts and Uncles Gene, Terri and Randall, Pat and Dave, Jon and Kathy, Donna, and friends (and soon-to-be Aunties and Uncles) Leah and James, Greg and Jessica, Alec and Mireille, Carrie, Sara, and many more (sorry if I’m leaving someone out!).

FAQs about our family:
Do you know whether the baby is a boy or a girl?  Nope.  We’re not going to find out.  We’ll have a whole lifetime to get to know this baby, so a few more weeks won’t kill us.  Besides, we’re happy either way so long as the baby is healthy.
Have you started getting the nursery ready?  Well, we don’t exactly have a nursery.  We live in a very small condo, so the baby stuff is going everywhere.  We are getting ready though.  The bassinet is in our room, the rocking chair is in the living room, and the changing station is going in the guest room/office (which is where the crib will eventually go – but we’re not setting it up for a few months).  Most of the baby cloths and gear are also going in the guest room/office, but we haven’t taken down the computer or the guest bed so it’ll become a guest room/office/babies room.
Is there anything else you need for the baby?  OK, we don’t get asked this question a lot but I’ll answer it anyway 🙂  Yes, we need cloth diapering supplies (found on our registry at babyworks.com) and bottle and feeding supplies (found on our registry at Babies R Us).
Do your cat and dog get along?  Pretty much.  They mostly ignore each other, every once in a while they get mad at each other (especially when the cat gets into the dog’s bed or space), occasionally they get jealous of what the other one gets to do (the cat can get on the furniture without being invited, the dog gets to go outside), and sometimes they try to play.  Sometimes the dog chases the cat, but more often it’s the cat who chases the dog.
Are you worried about the pets with the baby?  Not really.  They’re both rescues and have lived with kids before.  Because Sadie is a herding breed we’ll have to watch out to make sure she doesn’t herd the baby as it gets older.  She’s never been aggressive, so we’re not concerned about her biting or anything.  We’re mostly worried about having time to give the pets as much attention as they’re used to now, but we’ll all adjust.
Is Heather going back to work after the baby is born?  That’s the plan.  I’m taking 12 weeks off and then going back to work full time.  I’m fortunate to have a very flexible employer who will let me work from home two days a week, so we’re trying to find daycare for the other three days.  We’re talking to another family with a baby due about the same time as ours about sharing a nanny.  This is our ideal situation, but we’re also on the wait list for a few daycare centers just in case.
That’s all for now.  I’ll try to get some good preggie pics uploaded soon.
